After a hiatus, the Burlesque Bash returns to showcase BIPOC performers
Melanin Magic: Burlesque Bash returns to the Victoria Event Centre on September 30 after an extended hiatus. The series, a showcase for BIPOC performers, is a much-beloved space and its return is a welcome one.
“As a producer sometimes you need to take a step back, recalibrate and reset your vision,“ producer Hazel Nuez of Diosa de la Luna Entertainment said. “It was a much-needed break to ground myself and make sure I was giving my best self to the production of the show, to the performers, and to the audience.”
And the wait has been worth it. Taking to the stage on September 30 is a glittering lineup of powerhouse performers that include Luna Yen, The Mexicatessen, Peaches and Screams, Khushi and Holly Shirt.
“Each artist brings their own brand of magic to the event,” Nuez said. “The stories, cultures, and calibre of each artist are astounding. Each artist comes with their own history and to watch them tell their stories back to their community and beyond is what makes the event so special.”
Keeping the audience hyped and the stage clear will be MC Nikky E and stage kitten extraordinaire, Danger Vixen.

“Everyone is coming back strong with new acts, new costumes, new music, new props and a few surprises! “says Nuez, “I am very excited to share that with you all.”
At $30 a ticket, this evening is sure to entice and enchant. Seating is first come, first served, with row seating and bar stools available. Feel like pushing the sequined boat out? VIP tables for 4 are available at $160 per table. This includes a front-row reserved seat to the show, with goodie bags, snacks and a drink ticket. A cash-only raffle, with prizes from Keithsonic and Intamo Pleasureables, will also be running. All proceeds of the raffle and partial ticket sales will be donated to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.
What’s next for Nuez and Melanin Magic?
“Our next show will be December 16th. Caliente Burlesque is a spicy, steamy, slow-burn burlesque show, guaranteed to heat you up this winter! Melanin Magic will happen 4 times a year, and I have plans for a new performer showcase and a fundraiser for the Wet’suwet’en community. The BIPOC performing arts community is here to stay and has some big plans, so stay tuned.”
Melanin Magic: Burlesque Bash is 19+ and two pieces of ID are required. Doors are at 6:00 p.m., with the show starting at 7:00 p.m. Members of the BIPOC community are encouraged to use the discount code ‘BIPOC09’ when purchasing their tickets online.
